"Signora, between Austria and Italy, there is a section of the Alps called the Semmering. It is an impossibly steep, very high part of the mountains. They built a train track over these Alps to connect Vienna and Venice. They built these tracks even before there was a train in existence that could make the trip. They built it because they knew some day, the train would come."

I watched Under the Tuscan Sun today after a beautiful afternoon walking and talking with K in Central Park. This line between Martini and Francis really struck a chord. Just like Francis, who- on a whim, bought a house in Tuscany and redefined her life... I took a job in New York CIty, and came back to a place that now I cannot imagine leaving. If you haven't watched this beautiful movie, or if it's been awhile...curl up with a glass of Italian red and think about where your tracks will lead.
